LOCAL 117 SUES CITY OF TACOMA, WARNS CITY FOR VIOLATING WORKER RIGHTS
Local 117 has sued the City of Tacoma and City Manager T.C. Broadnax, contending that the City violated union members' rights under their collective bargaining agreement and under State law.
The lawsuit challenges recently proposed plans by the City to reorganize City departments and layoff 217 City employees.
The Tacoma News Tribune has published a front page article that details your Union's defense of its members at the City of Tacoma.
On October 24, your Local Union's legal department also sent a letter to City Manager Broadnax warning the City for trying to quell members' civil and constitutional right to free speech.
The letter states that City managers have tried to pressure City employees into not exercising their constitutional right as private citizens to petition the City Council about the need to preserve jobs and essential city services.
